5 Ways A Hot Tub Can Help You Keep Your New Year's Resolution

by Aiden Carroll

Around 40% of Americans make New Year's resolutions, but only 8% of those successful keep their resolutions. If you are thinking about making a resolution for the coming year, you will want to come up with a concrete plan to achieve it, as well as a few motivators to help you when you struggle with it. Below are five of the more common New Year's resolutions and how a hot tub can help you achieve them.

Lose Weight and Stay Fit

Many people are under the impression that hot tubs and saunas can cause you to lose weight by raising your body temperature and burning calories. Unfortunately, that isn't true. Most people burn roughly 17 calories for every 15 minutes they spend in the hot tub. That doesn't mean a hot tub doesn't help you lose weight, though.

The heat of the hot tub dilates your blood vessels, which increases your blood flow. This aids in digestion and increases your metabolism, which helps you burn more calories while at rest.

Also, a hot tub can be an excellent motivator, if it is used as a reward after exercise.

Reduce Stress and Get More Rest

The high temperature in a hot tub and massaging jets of a jacuzzi reduce muscle tension and promote relaxation. Regularly using your hot tub for 15 minutes a night, 90 minutes before you plan to go to sleep, can help you fall asleep faster and get higher quality sleep throughout the night.

One of the main causes of poor sleep in America is the usage of electronic devices too close to bedtime. Using your hot tub can be an excellent beginning to a nighttime ritual that helps remind you to not use your computer, tablet, or cell phone for an hour and a half before you intend to go to sleep.

Drink Less

There are several reasons that alcohol consumption should be avoided before or during hot tub use, including dehydration and heat exhaustion. This makes using your hot tub the perfect reason to limit your alcohol use. A hot tub also provides a fun and exciting alternative to going to the bar on the weekend. You can invite your friends over for mocktails and make a party in your own back yard.

Fall In Love

A recent study showed that people who take long, hot showers do so because they feel emotionally isolated. Warmth can make people feel more connected and trusting. A hot tub is a great way to warm up and increase your positive emotions and feelings of intimacy and trust. However, unlike a shower, a hot tub can be shared with friends or a casual date. This gives you the opportunity to get emotionally intimate with others and find the person you will want to spend the rest of your life with.

To make the most of your hot tub romantically, you should host regular parties and spend time getting to know friends and acquaintances in a low-pressure group atmosphere. Later, when you are dating, you can have more private time in the hot tub with your significant other.

Spend Time With Family

Hot tubs from places like California Home Spas & Patio provide a relaxing and fun environment to spend time with those you care about. As opposed to watching television together, hot tub usage promotes conversations. However, if you have children under the age of twelve you should reduce the temperature of your hot tub and monitor their usage, and children under the age of five should not be allowed to use a hot tub at all.

Scheduling a regular family hot tub party once a week can give you an hour to touch base with each other.

While a hot tub cannot keep all of your resolutions for you, it can definitely help you if you use it right and make it part of a concrete plan to change your life.
